Our extensive social programme is designed to let students get the most out of their stay in Brighton! Here are the top 5 events organised by the school.
- Welcome Party
Come to the café to have your first English tea after lessons on your first day (September - June). We will be waiting for you with a cup of tea and biscuits. This activity is free and it's a great opportunity for the new students who have just arrived to meet other students and make new friends in a relaxed atmosphere. It is a great opportunity to ask the school staff any questions you have about the school and the city too on your first day.
- Walking Tour
Rich in heritage and bursting with stunning Regency architecture, Brighton is a compact city making it the perfect place for a walking tour. During the busy summer period (July and August) we organise a walking tour for all the new students on their first day. The tour has been created to give advice to the new students, help them find the most important places in the city and also give them the chance to make new friends. Wandering around the city we pass through all the most famous attractions, the usual places where our social events take place and we will show you some places to make your stay more comfortable: the Royal Pavilion, North and South Laines, Brighton Pier, One Stop Travel Office and STA travel office (for all the International Student cards and bus passes) Odeon Cinema, The Sealife Centre, Laser Zone and lastly Churchill Square, the main square where all the buses stop.
- Beach Barbecue
Join us for a nice BBQ on Brighton's wonderful seafront. Enjoy the weather and socialise with other people from school. BBQs are provided but you have to bring your own food and your own drink! What's better to give the green light to summer time? What's better than having a delicious BBQ with all your friends during a summer night? That's why this event is always such a big success: many students from many different nations with many different ways to cook burgers, kebabs, vegetables and chicken. During the BBQ the music plays so the party can start and if you want you can even take a swim! This is the perfect night to chill out with other people from the school and get to know each other better!
- Beach Volleyball
During spring and summer period (May - September) every Wednesday we organize beach volleyball game for our students. We have a wonderful, purpose built, volleyball arena Yellowave with six courts and it is the UK's only permanent beach venue of its kind. They offer beach sports activities to all ages and abilities and it's situated on the Brighton seafront, just 10 minutes east on foot from Brighton Pier. This is a great activity for all levels and ages and it's nice to get your feet in some real sand.
- Mission Impossible Quest
Once per month we host our favourite event at the school: Mission Impossible! Four to six groups of students are given a series of missions and questions and only two hours in which to complete their tasks before trying to get to the meeting point before everyone else. This is a great way to make new friends and improve your English as well as meet local people, animals, eat ice cream and explore Brighton & Hove. Students have a map and and 6 places to visit whilst finding out information such as how many beach huts are on the seafront, or how much is an ice cream at the famous Maroccos Cafe. They must also take a picture to prove they went there – no cheating on the internet please! They also have ten missions ranging from take a photo with your group wearing a hat, to kissing a local on the cheek or taking a picture with a dog! Very funny! At the end the team with the most points wins – this means a combination of how fast, how many right questions were answered and who did the most missions. The winning group always win a free trip to London, Oxford or Cambridge from our partner UK Study, who donate the winning prize.
